Phoning Overseas
All hotels have IDD facilities and in most cases you can call direct from your room.
International calls to and from Egypt are expensive. Please check with
the hotel operator for the country tariff. Please note there is a
charge for International calls, even if they are not answered.
Clothing
Although shorts and beach dresses are acceptable in the hotel grounds
and on beaches, ladies should avoid wearing scanty clothing outside the
hotels as this is predominantly a Muslim country. Topless bathing for
ladies is strictly prohibited.
Health
The tap water is not drinkable, however, it is fine to use for
brushing your teeth. Please remember to drink plenty of bottled mineral
water to avoid dehydration, one of the main causes of stomach upsets.
The food in your hotel is prepared to a very high standard, however, we
would discourage experimenting with small alley restaurants.
Weather
The sun in Egypt can be very strong even in winter. Take extra care,
especially during the first few days and when out sightseeing. Avoid
staying out in the heat for too long and wear a hat and good sun block
to protect you from the sun. (Drink plenty of water to avoid
dehydration).
Sightseeing
We operate a daily schedule to include the highlights of
Egypt, we can also arrange private tours on days where excursion are
not indicated. All tours are in A/C vehicles escorted by Egyptologist
tour guides. For more details please check the Excursions section.
Shopping
Bargaining is essential for souvenirs. Beware of buying
seemingly valuable goods from The bazar as there is no guarantee of
authenticity.
Tipping
Tipping or "baksheesh" is very much a way of life here in Egypt. As a
rough guideline, for guides or drivers L.E. 5 - L.E. 10 per trip is the
usual amount given but that is left to your discretion.
Transport
Some hotels provide a courtesy bus in to the city centre.
Please contact reception for details. Taxis are readily available
outside hotels. Remember to agree the price before you set off. It is
advisable to have the exact fare since taxi drivers seldom have the
right change.
Departure Details
The general check out time is 12 noon. If you wish to extend your stay
beyond this time, please contact Reception for availability and
charges. Please remember to sort out your extras, return your keys and
collect all your valuables from the safety deposit box. If traveling
internally within Egypt, your next check-in at the hotel won't be
before 15.00 pm..
Medical Assistance
If you require medical attention, please contact the hotel reception
who will call an English speaking doctor for you. Remember to retain
all receipts for medication / consultation as these will be required if
you wish to make an insurance claim on your return back home. Some
people suffer from upset stomachs due to the change of climate, food,
handling money! Before eating, please do remember to wash your hands.
Drinks
Bottled water, fresh juices, and a wide variety of soft drinks
are available in the hotel bars and restaurants. Remember to drink lots
of water especially before consuming alcohol. During some religious
festivals, the sale of alcohol may be limited or prohibited in some
restaurants.
Postage
Buy stamps at the same time as your postcards and post your mail in the
hotel mail box, it normally takes 7-10 days to reach any destination.
Room Keys
Please leave your room key at reception each time you leave the hotel and check for messages when you collect it.
